Under our feet

I felt a sadness watching them building next to the studio today. They were digging. It was the first time I consciously thought of the soil and earth which lies underneath it all.

I had forgotten, or perhaps never even remembered that under this pavement, this road is the soil. I love the smell of soil. Far nicer than any perfume I have ever smelled. I found I had a lump in my throat. Quite out of the blue.
