Detail from a large painting inspired by the background of Prince’s Purple Rain album cover. #princeWaiting. Part of a series I made for @brooksengland for the Pitti Show last month. I’m trying to re asses my attitude to ‘wasting time’ for example, how annoyed I get if I feel someone is wasting MY time. Even missing a green light, and waiting for it to change back and seeing a gap and maybe I could squeeze through but should I.. (because this other guy did it just now.. )Or being in a que where the cashier is chatting to someone in front of me about how the daffodils flower so quickly that they’re dead within a few days, Or not tearing up the escalator resulted in me missing the bus, and now I’ve lost 9 minutes. The list is endless.I need to try to enjoy it. Time. Without counting it. And maybe gain some time back with a bit less mindless scrolling through the increasing narrow lens/echo chamber known as Face Book. Enjoy the small, pointless things, folks. #holborn #redlight #waiting #patience #cycling #roadcycling #ordinarypeople2 strangers working in the sun. I’ve been drawing him for 6 weeks and I still love him. Now I can draw him from memory. This is one of the versions I did when I was already a bit tired one afternoon.. hence his new nick name. #prince #princenpg #ruffles #purplerain #loveprince #illustration #princeillustration #princeywinkles #lauraquick

Hi Laura. Lovely drawing. Not quite sure I understood the title. There must be a local meaning.
Drawing reminded me of an old 60’s song: “Bus stop” by the Hollies
1966. Wayyy before your time.

Thanks, Yes, it’s because UK University fees are now so high that only the richest people can afford it. – hence the student here I saw with the heavy Harrods Bags. My father told me never to explain a joke, but actually it’s less of a joke and more of a dig at the unfairness of the new system which excludes the poorer/ordinary people. (I would never have done art if the fees were as high as they are now)

Your father was absolutely right. But in that case, I lacked the local Brit context. A sad context. Education is so much our future, it has now become a luxury item.
